In a collaboration between ZAP and UC Davis, cuttings from century-old Zinfandel vines have been collected from all over California and planted at the research vineyard in Oakville, CA. Samples came from many different counties, and all pre-date Prohibition. The Quivira winemaking team selected three of these pre-Prohibition clones to plant in the Anderson vineyard, allowing Quivira to discover what these ancient clones are capable of producing. Even though it is a young vineyard we are already impressed with the complexity of flavors represented in the fruit. We began farming this vineyard Biodynamically in 2003.
